MessageD-
why are you assuming I was including all ATV and 4-wheel drivers in the last message? I certainly was not trying to do so.
I was referring to the mud-boggers who make their own trails across streams etc
Of course I know that most 4-wheelers don't do that, but the minority who are responsible are making a big mess out there.
I am hopeful that with this new park we can get a handle on that problem on Moscow Mountain.
Don't you support that?

So let me get this straight: Bill London wants to both *deny* and *grant* access? This would garner a LOT more support if people were more inclusive rather than exclusive. By pointing out the *bad* motorized people you alienate the *good* ones. I don't lump those who shop at the Moscow Food Co-Op with everyone out there who sparks up a doobie. Don't lump all motorized recreationalists together.

I know my form of recreation does not appeal to everyone. Your form doesn't appeal to me as much as you either, but I at least participate in yours as well as mine. I enjoy the outdoors just as much, maybe even more, than those who recreate in only one way, mostly because I enjoy it in different ways. Yes, there are a small percentage of bad apples, and they do the most damage, and most of it is in very visible places. (yes, Wayne will disagree with me on the percentages, but let's move on)

I know I'm not going to make any converts in here. I guess since I enjoy a different type of recreation I should be banished from the Cedars, as I obviously don't care about them as much. <sarcasm mode off> Amazingly, I *do* support preserving The Cedars. I have spent time in there on foot in the summer and on a snowmobile in the winter (albeit several winters since) on an annual nighttime ride. I drive by them in my pickup, or ride by them on my ATV or motorcycle, on my way to the old lookout with my kids.

I don't mind that people want to close the Cedars to motorized recreation. There are plenty of other places that the money I spend on off-road sticker fees goes to maintain (not on Moscow Mountain). I just wonder what kind of fees hikers and bicyclers pay to maintain their trails? I'm pretty sure they don't buy off-road stickers.

P.S. to the members of the Vizzz . . . Phil's response came in after I started responding to this. It takes me a while to respond when I'm torqued off.

We now have an opportunity to protect a unique 300 acre preserve on Moscow Mountain that includes a wonderful grove of ancient cedar trees, the glorious viewpoint of on the rocky top of East Moscow Mountain, and the forestland between those two sites. The Nature Conservancy lease expires this year, and we need to preserve this land -- as a state park or a county park -- for perpetuity.

Besides providing all of us, and our children, with a great destination, designating this land as a park will help us solve some of the most difficult outdoor recreation issues on the mountain. This new park will focus both education and enforcement on the twin problems of motorized eco-destruction and access.

Motorized land-destroying mud-boggers and ATV drivers are ravaging Moscow Mountain, and the rest of the American West. These machines chew trails into eroding ruts, and kill wildlife, trees and streams. We have all seen meadows and creeks churned to moonscapes because of these machines and their un-thinking drivers. Through this new park on Moscow Mountain, maybe we can provide enough enforcement and education to stop this destruction.

In addition, with a park there near the top of the mountain, perhaps we will find the resources to resolve the access issue. If the interest in visiting the new park increases, we will fix and maintain the road system to make it possible for everyone to enjoy both the ride and the destination.

We need to preserve this 300 acre as a public park. Please help this effort. For more information, see http://www.pcei.org/mm_cedars.htm
