Description:                The number of cyber and data security incidents has swelled in recent years and so have the number of reported data breaches.  Whether it is the commercial, retail, financial or healthcare sector, no industry is immune.  Whether the client be a large national retailer, the local "mom & pop's," or your very own firm, no company - large or small - is safe from the prying programs of data hackers and digital thieves.

Do you know the difference between a cyber and data breach, or the differences between an "incident" and a "reported breach"?  Or do you think your average E&O or CGL insurance policies will protect you or your clients?  If you don't know the answers to these questions, YOU NEED TO ATTEND the Insurance & Surety Committee's Cyber & Data Risks and Related Insurance Speaker Series this Spring!! Speaker Presentation #3 - Monday, April 20, 2015

Speaker:         Roberta D. Anderson, Esq., Partner with K&L Gates - Ms. Anderson is a member of her firm's global Insurance Coverage practice group, and a co-founder of the firm's global Cyber Law and Cybersecurity practice group. Ms. Anderson concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance coverage litigation and counseling and emerging cybersecurity and data privacy-related issues, including incident planning and response.  Ms. Anderson is a recognized national authority in insurance coverage, cybersecurity and data privacy related issues, as she frequently lectures on these subjects, including for the American Bar Association (ABA), the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Practicing Law Institute, Strafford Continuing Legal Education, and Law Seminars International.  She also served on the editorial board of the CGL Reporter (International Risk Management Institute) from 2007 to 2010.

Cyberattacks and data security breaches are on the rise with unprecedented frequency, sophistication, and scale. They are pervasive across all industries and geographical boundaries. The problem of cyber risk is exacerbated not only by increasingly sophisticated cyber criminals and evolving malware, but also by the trend in outsourcing data handling, processing, and/or storage to third-party vendors, including "cloud" providers, and by the simple reality of the modern business world, which is full of portable devices that may facilitate the loss of sensitive information.

While data breaches and other types of cyber risks are increasing, laws and regulations governing data security and privacy are also proliferating.

In this session, we will review the latest legal and regulatory developments, explain the limitations of "legacy" insurance policies, and explore the newest cutting-edge "cyber" insurance products.
