I open just one account for joint probates; the petition is joint and your
letters testamentary name both decedents. The estate EIN is based on the
PR's social.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Joint probate - joint Estate account?

Listmates,

Husband and wife died within days of each other. If I open a joint probate,
can I also open one Estate account? Will the IRS issue an EIN for the joint
estate (if so, would you just use one decedent's social security number), or
would each decedent's estate need a separate EIN?

Has anyone opened an estate account after commencing a joint probate, and
how was it handled? One joint account, or two separate accounts?

  Your input is greatly appreciated!
