[WSBAPT] check to estate

Dear Listmates,

Does anyone have a great solution for the scenario where no probate is necessary, but the decedent receives a refund check for something, and the check is made out to "Estate of ______". Then the heirs are not able to actually cash the check without an estate account, and an estate account cannot be opened without an EIN and Letters. Does a Small Estate Affidavit ever work to get a vendor like an insurance company to issue the payment to the heirs directly?

thanks for your sharing your experiences!
