Marcus,
A parent or guardian may appoint a health care proxy for a minor child.
See RCW 11.94.010(4): A parent or guardian, by a properly executed power of attorney, may authorize an attorney-in-fact to make health care decisions on behalf of one or more of his or her children, or children for whom he or she is the legal guardian, who are under the age of majority as defined in RCW 26.28.015<http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=26.28.015>, to be effective if the child has no other parent or legal representative readily available and authorized to give such consent.
Hope this helps,
John

Subject: [WSBAPT] Guardianship appointing POA

I have a situation where there is a court appointed guardian for minors. The guardian is going to be out of the country for work. What is the method for the guardian to bestow authority on another to handle the affairs of the minor, such as medical decisions, etc.? Does the guardian execute a power of attorney granting the attorney in fact powers over the minors? If not, what alternative methods are available?
