CBS News: Capitol Police Could Face Cuts Without Passage of Funding Bill House Republicans Unanimously Opposed

Every single House Republican voted to defund the Capitol Police.
In May, House Democrats voted to provide funding to shore up the Capitol Police budget and provide back pay and mental health services to the heroes who protected our country on January 6th. Republicans voted unanimously to block that funding – and now the Capitol Police may literally run out of money to pay officers.

The U.S. Capitol Police Department is on the verge of running out of money unless Congress acts on a nearly $2 billion supplemental security funding bill, three sources confirmed to CBS News. The embattled agency, which has seen a significant dip in officer morale in the wake of the deadly January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, is also facing a manpower shortage because officers have been working overtime.

More than 150 Capitol and Metropolitan Police officers were injured while engaging with rioters.
In May, the House narrowly approved legislation providing $1.9 billion to bolster security at the Capitol, despite unified Republican opposition. The bill, which would also backfill overtime pay and shore up mental health services for officers...
House Republicans have spent months attacking the police – refusing to shake their hands, voting to defund local police departments, even opposing Congressional Gold Medals for officers who protected the Capitol during the January 6th insurrection.
Much of the House Republican Conference voted to defund their own police departments. Now, they're trying to defund the heroes who stopped the January 6th insurrection.
