Your question got me wondering, so for my own curiosity, if not for yours,
I just sent the following email to WSU. I've used WSU music copying
services before to copy a music CD to analog tape cassette!

Perhaps you have already contacted WSU about this? If I get a positive
response from WSU, I'll post info on this to the Vision2020 list.

Converting 78 RPM Analog Records to MP3
Hello music at wsu.edu

I am wondering if there is a service at WSU, for a fee, of course, for
converting 78 rpm analog records to digital MP3 (or other digital) formats?

Given there may be archival needs at WSU for music recordings, I thought
this might be a likely option in the Palouse Moscow/Pullman area to locate
someone who has the necessary equipment to provide this service.

78 rpm records sometimes require specialized rather rare needles,
cartridges (mono!), turntables and phono stages with special equalization
(RIAA, Teldec/DIN, etc.), to correctly play them.

Thanks for your time!

HEEEEEEELLLLLLP !

Does anybody here know of somebody who can convert a 78 record (that's a
record recorded at 78 rpm) to MP3?

I, just today, received a 78 record . . . recorded at Washington State
College . . . on May 5, 1958 (as in fifty-seven years ago) . . . of the
Washington State College Veterinary Choir . . . directed by Mark Keyes . .
. of "Halls of Ivy" . . . and "Tannhauser" by Wagner.

I have the capabilities to convert 33's and 45's, but NOT 78's.

I would be forever (and a day indebted to you.

Thanks.

Seeya 'round town, Moscow, because . . .
