I have known about Sue's condition ever since she moved in with family in Genesee, so as to make the back-and-forth trips to Lewiston, right up to her biopsy last Friday, easier for her. I have been in regular contact with Shirley Ringo and Tom Trail. They both have requested that Sue's condition not be publicly discussed as Shirley was not certain whether or not Sue's family had been totally informed.

Out of respect for Shirley's request, and until she (or Sue's family) brings this up for discussion . . .

Her contributions to our town will live on. She was a strong, compassionate woman, an extraordinary teacher, a model for all of us to try to emulate.

Many years passed between my HS days and my run for city council, but being the excellent teacher that she was, she remembered having me as a student. We may not have always aligned politically, but I like to think that we had some mutual respect, and I put up with her teasing me a bit about those awkward teenage years. No matter what we agreed or disagreed on, she was a nice lady, and a lady in the truest sense.
