PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow to Conduct Value Assessments of Moscow Farmers Market

September 18, 2013 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow is working to determine the community value of the Moscow Farmers Market (MFM) through two studies to be conducted by MFM Volunteer Coordinator and AmeriCorps member, Amanda Argona. The study methodology to be used has been developed by the non-profit organization, Market Umbrella and will include the Sticky Economic Evaluation Device (SEED) study and a Neighborhood Exchange Evaluation Device (NEED) study.

Data collected for the SEED study, which will take place at the Market on September 21, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be used to evaluate the financial benefits and impacts of the Moscow Farmers Market on the community. Data collected for the NEED study, which will take place be at the Market on October 5, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be used to measure the social impact of the Market on the community. On each data collection day, volunteer surveyors will be asking shoppers to answer fewer than 10 questions. Volunteers will also be counting the number of adult shoppers who enter the Market. The intention of the studies will be to help provide data to determine the Market's target audience, the distance shoppers' travel to attend the Market, the average amount of money spent by patrons at the Market and local businesses, and more.

Market shoppers are asked to please help by taking a moment to answer the surveys on September 21 and October 5. Input will help illustrate the value of the Market to the Moscow community. This City of Moscow project is made possible with help from the AmeriCorps program. For more information, please contact Amanda Argona at 208.883.7204 or by email at aargona at ci.moscow.id.us<mailto:aargona at ci.moscow.id.us>.

Market Umbrella is a non-profit group dedicated to sharing best practices, working to bring together market operators, agricultural and public health advocates, and to provide critical analysis to this new field.
