Dr. J.(oe Campbell) inquires:

"What is your definition of a blue moon?"

Well, Joe, that depends . . .

Are we talking about the celestial body "blue moon"?

Or are we talking about the Oakland Athletics ace pitcher from years past, John "Blue Moon" Odom?

In any case . . .

"This month had a full, then a new;
Now a second full moon comes in view.
As a metaphor there
For the odd and the rare,
This moon we refer to as blue."

Perhaps "Blue Moon" was best explained back in the 50s by the Marcels . . .

If that explanation was too fast for ome of you, maybe Billie Holiday can slow it down for you . . .

"There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill."

Considering that it's Aug 20-21, there is max a 3 week window since the last full moon. And with a 3 week window, it seems to me that this phenomenon would occur more than once in a blue moon.
