[Vision2020] The Way It Was Meant to Be . . .

I, too, like the new configuration and wasn’t prepared to do so. Additionally, walking on Main Street is easier than in the square. I thought it would be more difficult. Also, and I know this is not overwhelmingly supported, but I do like the prohibition against animals. Last year I got tangled up in a very little, very cute dog and fell. It wasn’t his or the owner’s fault at all, but I just don’t see as well as I used to.

I agree with you, Tom. I like the way it flows on Main St.
FWIW, the concern about "long and thin" involved merchants worrying about shoppers having to walk all the way from one end of the market to the other vs our current Jackson St. set-up where they can take short cuts to get to desired vendors.

I don't really see how you can refer to the current (temporary) concept as "long and thin". It is certainly more robust than any "aisle" of the Jackson Street parking lot configuration.
It also frees up more parking in the Jackson Street parking lot.
Concerning the maternity shop and its parking concerns: What guarantees are/were there that parking spots are/would be available during any other time of the week for pregnant women wanting to browse the store?
I simply believe that the Jackson Street parking lot design is far too restrictive and is void of potential growth/expansion.

Hodgins was a booster at that time, too. I was very surprised at the negative reaction by several businesses. I just can't see how most businesses couldn't find a way to take advantage of the traffic.
I also recall a number of market vendors having concerns, mostly around foot traffic flow in a "long and thin" market, versus the current squarish one.

I have passingly chatted with employees of some of the concerned businesses along Main Street. Hodgins loves the concept as their store has been fairly busy these past couple Saturdays.

I like the idea of putting the Market on Main St. I recall this idea coming up while I headed the Chamber in 2007-8. We co-hosted several informational meetings about it. Hardly anyone showed for the first two meetings. Then word got out among downtown business owners, and the third meeting was well attended by a contingent of owners that were dead set against it.
The idea was shelved after that.
Some of the businesses had legitimate complaints. Like the maternity shop not wanting pregnant mothers to have to walk far for parking. But, by in large, I couldn't see why a business would complain about an event putting hundreds of people at their doorstep every week during the summer. Seemed like a great opportunity to me.

Mr. Steed -
As willing as you are to openly discuss Mayor Chaney's perspective, concerning the location and operation of Moscow's Farmers' Market, what is your perspective?
Do you support adopting the current (albeit temporary) Farmers' Market concept of blocking off Main Street between Third and Fifth Streets, thus reducing/eliminating the intrusion of vehicular traffic . . . or not?

And, since I was downtown anyhow, I dropped into a few stores I normally don't frequent; found a pair of socks at Hyperspud, a book at Bookpeople for my grandson, and a pair of pants at StormCellar....also discovered I'd sold a piece of art from my Howard Huges Video show from ArtWalk. Wonderful day!! Huzzah, Moscow, Heart of the Arts!
