[Vision2020] [more] Look See What Tri-State is Promoting . . .

The shot pattern of a short barreled, cylinder bore defensive shotgun at across the room distances (12 to 14 feet) is about 5 inches. Across the apartment distances (8 to 10 feet) the pattern tightens to about the diameter of a coke can and at point blank is as big around as a quarter. Missing is always an option. Throw in the Mexican rot gut and the folks who need to be the most worried are those watching the game with you. The notion that you can't miss with a scatter gun is foolish nonsense.

Wayne -

That's why my weapon of choice for home security is a 12-gauge shotgun.

I can be sitting at home, watching football, drinking Coronas all afternoon, blow a .28 on a BAT, and still hit the target.

Another part of this issue is the gross inaccuracy of most pistol/revolver shooters. It takes a great deal of training and constant practice in order to shoot accurately. Even LE officers who have mandatory practice often miss at close range.

The causal gun owner is not likely to hit the intended target even only a few feet away.

Your understanding is wrong. After watching the first three Die Hard movies (no, I'm not making this up, http://www.spokesmanreview.com/tools/story_pf.asp?ID=193777)

He got shot and had to be rescued by someone else.

I'm not against concealed permits, but I think that if there had been a shootout in Aurora, the 'rescuers' would have likely shot people themselves. And seriously, you think it's a good idea for high school students to be smuggling guns onto campus in case of possible massacres?

It's my understanding that he grabbed a gun and headed in that direction and was told to go back home. For good reason, since that's exactly the wrong way to behave when you are carrying. Using your weapon should be a last resort, such as when you are pinned down in a movie theater by an armed assailant. Even then, you still need to think about whether or not you have a clear line of sight and where your bullet is likely to go.

Didn't something like this happen in the Moscow Massacre?

You may very well be right, Sunil.

It's just a habit I have acquired while in the service. Trust those around you, but keep your powder dry.

I saw the poster at Tri-State. And, as I've said before, this is the first time I have seen such an advertisement in Moscow. I checked a few things out, such as its website, phone number, etc. etc. etc. (Hey, I needed something to pass the time while my wife was shopping at Tri-State).

The more I dug, the more red flags I found. The more red flags I found, the more I dug. I have so many info sources, concerning the NFT Academy, bookmarked for reference I am thinking of discarding half of 'em.

The primary reason this caught my eye . . .

I have lived here in Moscow for just over twenty years. The is the FIRST time I have seen concealed-weapon classes openly advertised in town. Couple that up with the increasing paranoia, as a result of the recent instances in Aurora (Colorado) and Milwaukee (Wisconsin), and I feel I have a right to be curious.

BTW, the NFT Academy website has only been in existence since April 2012 and was not publicly released until June 12, 2012 (TWO MONTHS AGO).

I have more info to share, concerning the NFT Academy and its website, but let's see where this thread leads.
