PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow Water Department to host Annual Open House during Artwalk

June 15, 2011 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow Water Department is hosting its annual open house free bbq on Friday, June 17th from 3 - 6 p.m. at 201 N Main Street. The Water Department Open House is a great opportunity to view a Wisescape(tm) Demonstration Garden, tour the water facility, and meet the staff responsible for delivering water to your tap. In addition, enjoy a free BBQ and take a look at the Artwalk display of historical pictures. It will be a fun day filled with kid's activities, a raffle for a family pool pass, and the unveiling of the public art bike rack created by Issak Julye. MyRadio, 102.5 will be on site from 4-5 pm for a live broadcast and music.

The Moscow Water Department has supplied safe drinking water to the residents and businesses of Moscow Idaho since the 1890s. An elaborate system of wells, filters, reservoirs, miles of underground infrastructure, and the individuals who manage it, all play a vital role toward delivering the precious underground aquifer resource to the tap. Conserving this resource has been and will continue to be an important goal for the city. To assist Moscow's citizens with their water conserving goals, there are several established conservation programs at the Water Department. One such program, created in 2008 and referred to as Wisescape(tm), emphasizes efficient landscaping that reduces water consumption for outdoor irrigation. The Wisescape(tm) approach promotes a limited turf and efficient irrigation design, reduction of resources, soil enhancements, and site-appropriate plants. To help inspire those to create a Wisescape(tm) on their own property, the Water Department created a Wisescape(tm) Demonstration Garden at 201 N Main St in 2009.

For more information regarding the bbq, the Moscow Water Department, water conservation, or Wisescapes(tm), please call Nichole Baker, Water Conservation Program Coordinator at 208-883-7114.
