Scent of a soldier
‘Patton’ cologne gives manly aroma to Army’s finest
Soldiers have fought in the image of legendary Gen. George S. Patton Jr. for gen erations.

Now they can smell like him, thanks to “Patton,” a cologne officially licensed by the Army, according to Parfumologie, the prod uct’s designer.

“Patton” is one of five fragrances of “The American Line,” a set of colognes licensed by the military and inspired by soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guards men, the designer says.

The other scents are the Marine Corps’ “Devil Dog,” Air Force’s “Stealth,” Navy’s “Liberty” and Coast Guard’s “Riptide.” Each service branch’s bottle bears its official colors and is emblazoned with official emblems.

The cologne is made in the U.S. and a per centage of proceeds is donated to the Veterans Administration and each service branch, according to the American Line website.

A 3.4-ounce bottle of “Patton” goes for $45 on The American Line website and starts at about $23 on Amazon.com.

“Patton” is a woodsy fragrance that defines masculinity — a “confident blend of sage, bergamot and cedar that elicits feelings of majestic woodlands and endless horizons,” the website says.

One review of the fragrance posted anony mously on Amazon says, “It has a back woods, masculine scent that evokes memo ries of LandNav courses and ruck marches (if you could add a hint of cordite, it’d be right on the spot). My girlfriend adores the smell, and a lot of people ask what it is when I wear it.” “Tried this fragrance,” another reads, “One splash increases the urge to pointlessly run laps, bark like a dog and sleep on rocks and in mud. Go for the AF [Air Force] cologne ... increases your intelligence by 45 percent.” The cologne’s namesake is most known for his field leadership in World War II, notably in the Battle of the Bulge and the North African campaign.

He was the man “Germans feared above all others,” according to military documents.

When soldiers slap on the “Patton” scent, they might recall the general was also known for an infamous soldier slapping scandal.

Now in a strange twist of fate for the iconic ground commander, “Patton” is airborne.
