[Vision2020] How's This for Cool?

You're right, Andy.

I checked it out with Consumer Reports. It gets decent mileage. Its ride is very rough. And the seating is not all that comfortable. I would have to look elsewhere if I were in the market for a mini- or micro-car.

Furthermore, you are right again. Our previous car was a 1992 Geo Metro which we gave to a friend of a friend last year. It had 145,000 miles on the odometer and still drove nicely at 48 miles per gallon. We still see it around town once in a while.

Seeya round town, Moscow.

But the hoopla surrounding this 40-mpg vehicle evokes BMW’s reintroduction of the Mini in 2002. Today the Mini costs between $17,000 and $30,000. The Smart Fortwo costs between $12,000 and $17,000. Still, this is no guarantee for success. While two-seat micro cars have been popular in Europe for decades, Smart is actually losing money in that market.
