Maybe this will be the defense argument for a lenient sentence -- excessive dumbness.

Sorry, Tom - I disagree. I don't think sociopaths like Parks would respond in that way. Clearly, looking at the lovely face of the trusting pregnant wife he murdered hasn't bothered him up to now since he's not changed his Facebook profile picture. For all we know, he could be looking at the picture and "Glory Days-ing" it & relishing/reliving his success the way murderers, rapists, and child molesters often do, or maybe her face enrages him because it reminds him of his failure to adequately cover up his crime.

In fact, if the man who had murdered my beloved pregnant daughter was still using a picture similar to what Parks is using after this plea, he'd be much safer in jail than out. He doesn't deserve to ever look at another picture of the precious life he oh, so easily, snuffed out!

One might think Parks would have learned from his family's connection to the murderer Shackelford (another double-murder where arson was used in a failed attempt to cover up the murders) that arson doesn't always work so well, but I guess not.

Keely, I have no idea if Parks was receiving "pastoral counseling" before he killed his pregnant wife, but I did read in the Christ Church weekly bulletin several months ago that Jim Wilson was providing "counseling" while Parks was in jail. Gee, what a shocker, that.

The photo of the two victims should be prominently displayed in Silas Parks' cell. It should be conspicuously placed so that those faces are the first faces he sees every morning and the last faces he sees every night for the rest of his EFFING life!

    Hi Rose & Wayne,

It never ceases to horrify me how cheap life & safety are here in Latah County L

I truly wonder how his acts can be considered "without malice and "upon a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion"" with his history of domestic violence against her L Maybe if the legal system had knocked the crap out of him back in 2006, he would have gotten the message that domestic violence WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in Latah County.

As Dan pointed out in another post, the following comes from the LMT:

"Sarah Parks' family supports the plea deal, [Thompson] said."

How sad - that's clearly not a vote of confidence from the family in the Prosecuting Attorney's office to secure an appropriate conviction L

Anyone have any idea how prison time works here in Idaho? In other states I'm aware of, prisoners can easily get up to a third of the sentence off for "good behavior."

And, what determines whether sentences run consecutively or concurrently? If the two "voluntary manslaughter" <gag> sentences are to run concurrently, why would the arson sentence run consecutively?

Did anyone else check that arrogant pr*ck's Facebook page back at the time before it got locked down? His bragging about his friends who'd gone into law enforcement and such was purely nauseating . . . No thinking person can't help but wonder if he picked up tips for concealing a murder scene from innocent conversations.

And, the killer still has the nerve to have his profile picture the same now as then:

That piece of crap should spend the rest of his life behind bars. It takes a real special kind of evil to kill a pregnant woman, particularly one carrying your child.

This is unbelievable on many levels. Why in the world did Bill Thompson agree/negotiate to this plea bargain? What was his reasoning? The electorate should demand and explanation from him for this decision. Why is arson, a property crime, treated in a more punitive manner than murder? And please, don't parse words and legal terminology about the difference between murder and manslaughter. Dead is dead, and the actions of Silas Parks were deliberate and intentional as the initial charge indicated. This is a sickening miscarriage of justice and an embarrassment to Latah County.

WOW! We go from a death penalty case to a plea bargain!
