Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT) - A Gooding man was sentenced Tuesday for his role in the death of a six month old boy earlier this year.

In late January Jason Blunt, 25, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of six month old James Osborne.
At the time Blunt was caring for the infant while Samantha Savage, the boy's mother and Blunt's girlfriend, was at work.

Blunt pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in late april.

A Gooding police report said that the child may have been shaken while Blunt was caring for him; doctors said James Osborne died of a brain hemorrhage.

Tuesday, 5th District Judge John Butler said the autopsy report said the baby's cause of death was blunt force trauma, not shaking.

Butler said while Blunt appeared to be truly remorseful for the child's death, Butler could not ignore the pain Blunt had caused the family.

The judge ordered Blunt to pay $1,000 restitution for funeral expenses, in addition to the jail time he'll serve of 3 years fixed and 3 indeterminate.
