Lots to cover here . . .
First, you were simply wrong in stating that the Nazis were "on the left." Second, my take on the motivation of the Tea Party movement is, I believe, not only shared by other observers but also born out by facts. Third, I don't watch MSNBC, and I so I don't rely on Olbermann, et al, to educate me.
Surely you see that in this day and age, the threat and realization of political violence comes much more from the right than the left. That doesn't mean that every person who aligns themselves with the politics of the Tea Partyers is a violent, bigoted wing nut. I don't believe, for example, that you're a violent, bigoted wing nut. However, those who are appear to feel comfortable within and alongside the Tea Party people, and that ought to give you pause.
I appreciate that you think I'm "better than this," of course -- but you say it in the context of my supposed slander. I've not said anything slanderous/libelous. I've said things that are critical. And while I believe the record shows that I'm correct, please keep in mind that these are opinions of mine. I'm absolutely sure you agree with my right to hold them. If I am factually wrong, along the lines of "the Nazis were on the left," then please tell me where. And if I am factually wrong with malice aforethought as I'm naming a single person, then you can accuse me, and accuse me accurately, of slander or libel. Until then, isn't it fair to say that we disagree on the makeup, motivation, and behavior of the Tea Party -- and let it stand at that?
Finally, I would accept a subscription to one of the magazines you recommend, and I promise to read them if you do send me a subscription. My mailing address is 676 W. Pullman Road, Box 302, Moscow. You're under no obligation, of course, but if you think it would help me "see the light," then feel free to shine it my way.

> On your first paragraph see my reply to Wayne. I will acknowledge that some Socialist governments are peaceful, but most down through history have not been. In any case they place government over people not the other way around.
> You completely misrepresent the Tea Patry. They are not primarily energized by hatred of the president. You should broaden your source of information . Instead of relying on Maddow, Mathews, Olbermann and the Huffington Post, I would recommend National Review or The Weekly Standard. If you would promise to read it, I would spring for the subscription. The last three meeting of The Palouse Liberty Project has been devoted to Austrian Economics. Nothing has been said about the President. They are opposed to large controlling government. Personalities or race has nothing to do with it. This is straight out of Saul Aulinsky" Rules for Radicals. Separate, demonise, Marginalize. You should get you facts straight before you slander people. I know that you are better than this.

To jump to the conclusion that Nazis, however fascist, were "leftists" because their political party included the word "socialism" is naive to the point of incomprehensibility.

I'd also like to hear how a political movement -- the Tea Party -- primarily energized by a hatred of the President, not simply disdain for his policies, can legitimately claim to be "painted with a broad brush" when others point out not only its raison d'etre, but legitimate examples of the bad behavior springing from it.

They're not held in contempt by thinking people because they don't behave contemptibly, nor are their movements anything other than thoughtful attempts by people I happen to disagree with on most things to educate and agitate, reasonably, for their political agenda. When the Tea Partyers decide to work for political change and not for the destruction of the President, his presidency, and the entire political process, the brush they're painted with may be one of "simply conservative" and not one of "rabidly given over to the worst tendencies of bigots."
