Had I posted it in it's entirety I fail to see how it would have changed anything. My "faulty memory" made no reference to Senator Schroeder's concepts of responsible firearms ownership which I'm quite sure are sound and reasonable.
Placing any additional restrictions on a citizens ability to carry a firearm over and above what is stipulated in the State and Federal Constitution is by definition an attempt to limit second amendment protections.
Just out of curiousity, whose definition of responsible firearms use would you like to have put in place, the NRA's or HCI's, Michael Bloomberg's or Ted Nugent's?

Mr. Crabtree -
Perhaps you should haveposted the October 19, 2007 article in its entirety (see attached PDF file), such as . . .
-----------------------------------------------------
Chaney will ask legislators to change laws
Posted on: Friday, October 19, 2007
Moscow Mayor Nancy Chaney said Thursday she is drafting a letter to state representatives requesting they work toward allowing Idaho cities to regulate firearms.
Chaney said she would like to be able to ban weapons in places like City Hall, city parks and city-run youth facilities.
In August, Chaney asked City Attorney Randy Fife to write to the Idaho Attorney General’s Office to determine whether the city had the authority to regulate firearms.
Chaney said the letter will be sent to Reps. Shirley Ringo and Tom Trail and Sen. Gary Schroeder before the next legislative session, which begins in January.
Deputy Attorney General Stephen A. Bywater sent a reply in September stating that the city cannot restrict people from legally carrying firearms.
Chaney said her letter also will ask the legislators to consider making requirements for concealed-weapons permits more stringent, and to support programs that would encourage “responsible use of firearms,” gun safety and nonviolent conflict resolution.aws
-----------------------------------------------------
That last paragraph doesn't seem to reflect any intent, on Mayor Chaney's behalf, to deny anybody their second amendment rights, now does it? Or is a “responsible use of firearms” a whole new concept to Senator Schroeder?
By the way, V-peeps: It appears to be a "go" for the Second Annual Intolerista Wingding (with Roy Zimmerman) in April/May. His contact person (and significant other) informs me that May is preferable to Roy. Details will be worked out after Holiday/Christmas/Xmas break. Instead of the 1912 Center, I am opting for the Kenworthy. There's something about "Second Annual Intolerista Wingding" in BIG capital letters on the Kenworthy marquee that really appeals to me. Best news, though, is . . . it will be FREE to those who attend.

From the 19 October, 2007 edition of the Daily News:
"In August, Chaney asked City Attorney Randy Fife to write to the Idaho Attorney General’s Office to determine whether the city had the authority to regulate firearms.
Chaney said the letter will be sent to Reps. Shirley Ringo and Tom Trail and Sen. Gary Schroeder before the next legislative session, which begins in January.

>>> Schroeder's tactics underhanded
>>>
>>> City elections are becoming increasingly partisan. In our recent mayoral
>>> election, Sen. Gary Schroeder, R-Latah County, supported John Weber
>>> aggressively and, I think, offensively.
>>>
>>> Schroeder used a confidential City Council memo that had been leaked to
>>> write a stinging letter to the editor - attacking Mayor Nancy Chaney
>>> while
>>> distorting her views and actions.
>>>
>>> Schroeder also mailed (and paid for) a letter to a targeted audience
>>> attacking Chaney, again inaccurately.
>>>
>>> "It's time to remember Nancy Chaney's war on your second amendment
>>> rights," he blared. I remember this "war." It stemmed from the concern
>>> of
>>> city employees who were approached by individuals who were hot under the
>>> collar about given issues and who carried guns. Considering news here
>>> and
>>> around the country, one can understand why these employees were edgy.
>>>
>>> Chaney sought City Council approval to investigate whether state law
>>> could
>>> be modified to allow prohibiting guns in certain public locations, such
>>> as
>>> City Hall. The council declined, and she took it no further.
>>>
>>> Incredibly, Schroeder twisted the facts to suggest Chaney might try to
>>> ban
>>> guns in city limits, speculating that folks who carry guns would have
>>> great difficulty passing through Riggins while attempting to travel to
>>> south Idaho.
>>>
>>> Both Schroeder's letter to the editor and the mailed letter were timed
>>> for
>>> the weekend before Election Day - the waning hours of the campaign and
>>> too
>>> late for Chaney to respond effectively. His 11th-hour tactics were
>>> designed to push emotional buttons, not to promote open, civil and
>>> honest
>>> discussion of the issues.
>>>
>>> Schroeder reminds me of Richard Nixon, who was also intelligent and
>>> reasonably moderate. It is said that Nixon didn't have political
>>> opponents, rather he had enemies. That is the nature of Schroeder's
>>> underhanded behavior. He compromises his own effectiveness.
>>>
