Carrie Brooks transported to Harborview in Seattle
Monday afternoon, word was received that Carrie Brooks was on her way to
Seattle, WA for more specialized medical treatment at Harborview Medical
Center.
Brooks was critically injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision early
Saturday morning near mile post 36.5 on U.S. Highway 12. She was first
taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital, then St. Joseph Regional Medical
Center in Lewiston and later to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane,
before she was transferred by air Monday. Family members were going by
car to Seattle.
According to an email from Tami Wayt at the Clearwater County Extension
office, Carrie is lucid and responsive. In Seattle, specialists will
determine if they will be able to save her feet. There is a 50/50
chance. The injured woman will need surgery and reconstruction to her
lower legs, skull, face, back and neck, as well as healing time for
internal injuries.
Brooks has worked for several years at Orofino Elementary School. They
have set up a fund for Brooks and her family at Wells Fargo, PO Box
2199, Orofino, ID 83544. They have also been taking donations at the OES
Office for VISA gift cards.
Her husband, Randy, is Clearwater County Extension Agent. That
organization is collecting gift cards for places like McDonalds, Pizza
Hut, Quizno's, Starbucks, Costco and Safeway, among others, that are
near Harborview. Those gift cards may be sent to: Clearwater County
Extension 2200 Michigan, Orofino ID 83544 or Latah County Extension
Office at PO Box 8068, Moscow Idaho 83843.
A blog has been set up at: http://careaboutcarrie.blogspot.com/ to help
keep people updated about her condition. According to the blog, Randy
and their daughter Jen and Carrie's mom were headed to Seattle Monday
afternoon. Their son, Tyler, was returning to Moscow and son, Bo, is
staying with a family in Orofino.
Harborview also has a place on their web site for people to send email
to patients:
