Yes, Carl . . .

Many, if not all, of us are susceptible to the occasional mental, vocal,
and/or physical gaffe, but not all of us are US senators in the public
eye.

I am certain that David Letterman, being a professional stand-up comedian,
meant his comments to be humorous, albeit extremely tasteless.

I am just as certain that if David Letterman were an elected public
official, he would have avoided making such tasteless comments publicly,
such as US Senatory John McCain has (repeatedly).
