[Vision2020] Theme Songs and National Anthems

Wayne is dead on about this - although frankly, "Deutschland Uber Alles" is
not a song I like to hear. Horst Wessel was a sorry SOB who joined the
Nazi's at a young age and died a well deserved death in a squalid street
fight. The lyrics to the song that he proportedly wrote are:

            English Translation (literal)

Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
march in spirit with us in our ranks.

The street free for the brown battalions,
The street free for the Storm Troopers.
Millions, full of hope, look up at the swastika;
The day breaks for freedom and for bread.

For the last time the call will now be blown;
For the struggle now we all stand ready.
Soon will fly Hitler-flags over every street;
Slavery will last only a short time longer.

Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
march in spirit with us in our ranks.

Tom,

Some people will jump on Obama and blame him for everything, in this case
for even deciding on what "elevator music" is played on the telephone while
someone is on hold!

Is it just a bit of a stretch to assume that the President of the US, no
matter WHO is in that office personally chooses the telephone music?

Plus, the song itself was actually written back in the 1700's by Joseph
Hayden as a birthday song for the Austrian Emperor!

And the actual nazi anthem was the "Horst Wessel" !

"Deutschland Uber Alles" is (and has been since 1841) the national anthem
of Germany (West Germany prior to unification)

I really didn't have to look it up to know this, either. See, I heard it
played more often than I can remember during the twelve years (of my
20-year Army tenure) I was stationed in Germany. I can sing it (off key
and all) in both English and German, at least the first stanza.

Listen to it. It is a beautiful song.

So, you see, dale. As much as you want to believe, "Deutschland Uber
Alles" is NOT the Nazi theme.

Gsehen sie nach Farmers' Market, Moscow.
