There is definitely the perception among some blacks -- not anywhere
near all, but many -- that succeeding at university is selling out to
the white man, in that it is conforming to the rules and strictures of
a white man's institution.

As a full-time student, and as a white person who has had black
relatives for 40 years, I have been exposed to this sentiment
firsthand.
