Snake River Alliance, Idaho's Nuclear Watchdog and Clean Energy Advocate Roundtable Meetings

What: Roundtable meeting to gather the public's input on buried waste cleanup at the Idaho National Laboratory,

  Pocatello
  When: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from 5:30pm to 7pm.
Where: Pocatello Public Library, 113 S. Garfield

Twin Falls
When: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 6pm to 8pm.
Where: Twin Falls City Council Chambers, 305 3rd Avenue East, Twin Falls, ID 83301

Why: The Snake River Alliance was recently awarded an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Technical Assistance Grant to hire a technical advisor to help analyze 1600+ pages of buried waste information. We have received three bids for the job and we are taking those proposals to the public to gather your input. The roundtable meeting will consist of public review of the three bids and your comments and/or concerns which will be taken into account when the Alliance picks one of the three individuals.

As you know the Magic Valley is downstream of the Idaho National Laboratory which is the home to plutonium contaminated waste in unlined pits and trenches above the Snake River Aquifer.

The Department of Energy expects to release the "Buried Waste Cleanup Plan" late next month at which point it will be open for public comment. There will be public hearings in Boise, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls.

Your participation is key.
