I agree that Gore deserves a lot of credit for addressing this issue.  He is
wealthy, and could be living in luxury out of the public eye, without taking
on any causes that might inflict grief.  He knew, I suspect, that becoming a
major spokesperson for the dangers of global warming would make him a target
for abuse in the media.  And anyone who has seen the film "Inconvenient
Truth" will discover that Gore's attention to human sourced CO2 induced
global warming goes back decades...This is not some new cause he latched
onto to become a media celebrity.

John Rothman, historian, teacher, political consultant, and talk show
host on KGO radio AM 810, the past week discussed meeting with Gore in 1992,
when Gore told him then that global warming was going to be a major problem
in the future...

Maybe Gore did not invent the Internet (where did this story come from?),
but he was prescient on global warming.
