My response was to his comment that the church NEVER committed crimes of 
violence.  Obviously bombs weren't used in the Spanish Inquisition.  But my 
point was not one of intensity, but to remind him that crimes were committed 
in the name of the church.

There are other historical instances one could choose to use.  It would be 
interesting to discuss Manifest Destiny from its Christian perspective and 
the often used rationale for the destruction of entire Indian Villages was 
that, "nits make lice."
