Snopes and the urban legends site act as though the information that Pat posted just appeared anonymously out of thin air in an effort to make your teen age fantasy look bad. Check out:

Mike Benge appears to be only too willing to put his name and reputation on the line to make sure that Hanoi Jane's exploits are not buried under a weak apology and a Barbara Walters white wash.
You might also Google Vietnam vets on Jane Fonda and see if you find many loving remembrances.
As to Barbarella, I guess you had to have seen it young. I first saw the movie when I was in my late twenties, nearly two decades after it first came out. I was sure that the homeliest stripper I had ever seen in the San Diego dive bars was head and shoulders (and all those other parts) better looking. More wholesome in overall appearance and more refined in their comportment. Probably less likely to give you a nasty burning sensation when you shake hands with Mr. Johnson as well.
