Hail to the Vision!

An article by Gareth Porter, historian and national security specialist, argues that Iran is restraining the Madhi Army from bringing the U.S. to its knees in Iraq. Led by Moqtada al Sadr, the Shiite Madhi army has grown from 10,000 to 100,000 over two years, and its members have also infiltrated the Iraqi Army and police.

Shiite militias have taken over the police in the southern city of Basra, and British troops have not been able to root them out. Sadra also controls half of Baghdad's population, and the new prime Shiite minister has declared that neither Iraqi or U.S. troops are allowed in the huge slum called Sadr City.

If the U.S. attacks Iran or even imposes stiff sanctions, the Shiite leaders in Teheran could give the OK to Sadr to cut off the U. S. supply lines from Kuwait, which run through Shiite territory. Porter reports that Friday prayers in the Shiite Holy City of Karbala begin with the chant "Death to America!"

Bush's invasion of Iraq has led to the worst possible result: a Shiite government that will be allied to Iran and wil be Israel's sworn enemy.
