Why marriage with benefits for heterosexuals without kids?  Precisely  
because they are heterosexuals, the potential for reproduction was there.
 
Why can't gays marry to protect "their" children?  (sigh)  Why  can't a 
person marry their German Shepherd to protect their children?
 
Because it's UNNATURAL, Phil.  It, like many behaviors constitutes a  
maladjustment.  Not to be celebrated and encouraged, but tolerated  courteously in a 
free society.
 
Sometimes things just aren't all that complicated.....
