[Vision2020] Authority To Preach

I'm heading off to the Sawtooths for a week, so I can only answer briefly
for now. I'd be happy to continue this once I return, though!
Yes, the Scriptures not only "come into play," but they are the standard
here. I believe the entire testimony of the NT, and specific verses, give
the believer assurance that the Spirit has distributed, and expects use of,
gifts and talents for His good purpose -- for the building up of the Church
-- and not on the basis of gender. Further, the NT is replete with examples
of women occupying the prophetic office and assuming leadership roles.
These examples are in harmony with the overall panoroma of the message, and
the few specific texts that would appear to limit women's roles in the
church must be interpreted in that light -- a basic rule of hermeneutics, as
I'm sure you know, is that the student must interpret the unclear passage in
light of the already-clear.
So it's because of Phoebe, Priscilla, Junia, Phillip's daughters, Anna, the
woman at the well, Chloe, Lydia, the women witnesses of the Resurrection and
countless others we don't know of that I am confident that God intends women
and men both to use the gifts He's given them. And everywhere the gifts are
listed, there is the admonishment that they be used and the expectation
throughout Scripture that the believer submit to and respect those who are
thusly gifted, as they themselves would be submitted to and respected. I
don't see how we can do less.
That's all for now -- I have to finish packing!

Keely,
Does the authority of scripture come into play with regard to determining if
someone has the authority to preach? J Ford seemed to appeal to scripture.
If the Spirit is God's Spirit you speak of, would not the scriptures and the
Spirit line up with another and agree?
