I lived in England for a long time, where restrictive Sunday business
hours were enforced. Believe it or not, most of the population was in
favor of these restrictions, and it wasn't because of any religiosity
(England being a marvelously secular society), but simply because they
knew that, once Sunday shopping laws were relaxed, employers would be
able to intrude upon their single guaranteed day of puttering around
the garden or taking a drive in the country.
