I have been contacted offlist by several folks wondering how we fared Ophelia. We only had 2" of rain and very little wind. We were almost disappointed!!! ;-)) We were all prepared. They cancelled school at ECU yesterday because they had word that Ophelia would be over Greenville by 3:30 PM yesterday. They emailed everyone and told them to make sure they had plenty of water and food available that didn't need heating. They then called off school until noon today. Mary has classes at 8:00 every morning so she is working at home again today.

It tore up a lot of beaches and some homes on the outer banks. TV coverage has been solid since Tuesday night on the local channels. Some of the reporters were out in weather that I sure wouldn't be in. They really earn their pay. There was some flooding on the outer banks and some lowlands near shore on the Pamlico Sound. One house we looked when we were house shopping out here near the seashore had 8' of water in the yard but they had a nice deep water dock to tie up a boat even before the flood!

They really have their stuff together out here when it comes to being prepared for hurricanes. They put in a 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM curfew on the outer banks and other areas the hurricane had damaged and people seem to help one another more here. They had the National Guard in place on Sunday afternoon and they were training in rescue methods. The head guy from FEMA out here has 23 years experience and is highly respected by everyone and got glowing reviews yesterday in the newspaper for his past performance.

I have a list of webcams along the beaches that can be viewed if anyone is interested please email me and I will send them out to you. There is one from the Cape Harreras Lighthouse, one from the beach at Duck, NC and one at the Avalon Pier. They don't send well on V2020.
