I want to know why I can't get a job in this town without removing my facial piercings. I have two small lip rings and a small nose ring. Simple rings, nothing hanging in front of my vision or stabbing people who walk by.
I'm quite disturbed after having gone to business after business and being told I might be able to work if I removed my facial jewelry. I feel that this is discrimination, and that its unacceptable. My jewelry does not affect my work performance in any way. I am not lazy or a slacker. I am not a pot head. I am not a punk. I am not mentally insufficient.
My jewelry is part of a philosophy, and is an artwork. Its the closest thing I have to a religion. I will not change my philosophy because people think its unprofessional, because I believe professionalism lies in conduct, cleanliness, and performance. I take a shower every day. I trimmed my hair last week. Doesn't that make me "clean cut"? Or do I have to be a white Christian straight male to be able to get any sort of professional treatment.
Any thoughts?
Probably shouldn't be writing letters when upset,
Ms. Jasper Nance
