I think what bothers me the most about Ms. Willard's post, outside of her
putting her children out there like she did, is that she never mentions her
work with organizations such as Idaho Parents Unlimited or CoAd...both are
very excellent and very hard working organizations that help parents of
Special Needs children work within and with the School District. We have
worked with them in the past and they have always come through for us to
make sure my children received what they needed in a timely manner. I
highly recommend both of those offices.
Ms. Willard - please contact these people and they WILL work for you as
well. If you have any contact with the Special Ed teacher in your
children's school and if you have an IEP for them, the numbers for the
people I mentioned is very available to you. Use them.
As far as home schooling - for Special Needs kids - believe me, it is not
advisable. It requires a GREAT deal of work and time and can be very
frustrating/unproductive for both the parent and especially the child. I am
speaking from personal experience and have many friends with Special Needs
kids that have tried it too. It is simply a very difficult task to
undertake unless you have the education and time to tackle it. Again, it is
a matter of what is best for the child, not just convenient.
