  City Employee Wins National Arborist Award...

   

  Roger Blanchard, Parks and Facilities Manager with the City of Moscow Parks and Recreation Department, received the 2004 Municipal Arborist of the Year Award from the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

   

  As part of his duties Mr. Blanchard serves as the City Arborist. He is the staff liaison to the City Tree Committee and oversees the overall community forestry operation for the City. Working with the Tree Committee and the University of Idaho, he recently established a tree nursery on the university research farm where in a few years trees will be transplanted back into the community all the while new trees are being planted in the nursery and students will have additional trees to conduct research. Mr. Blanchard also donates an enormous amount of time on planting projects around the City working with various organizations and schools.

   

  The City Parks and Recreation Department, under his charge manages the trees and shrubs for all City lands as well as public rights of ways within the city limits. 

   

  Mr. Blanchard is a certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture and has been with the parks and recreation department since 1990.
