Visionaires: I talked with Commissioner Hammond of the Idaho Tax Commission
today. He said that April 04 tax returns were significantly up over April
of 03--up to a total of $360 million or an increase of about $42 million over
03. The increases reflected positive upward trends in both sales and income
tax.

Ten months ago the Legislature approved the funding of a number of new tax
auditor positions. This has resulted in the collection of about $14 million
extra dollars from non-payers. Substracting the wages and benefits the state
has taken in about a net of $13 million and will probably come out about
$15 million ahead by the end of the fiscal year.
