Actually, Dale's right on this one. The conference isn't (and hasn't
ever been about slavery). Biographies of Civil War folks (from both
sides) have been given in the past, and slavery almost always comes up
in at least one Q&A spot (that is what is being referred to on the blog,
which, by the way, happens to be Steve Wilkins' son Remy's). As the
subject of Revolution is being covered, I assume that Dabney's biography
will primarily deal (after his life) with his views of secession and
what he would consider the constitutional revolution of the Civil War.
But, as we expect close to a thousand attendees, no doubt someone will
ask the slavery question in this Q&A as well. Cheers.

Actually, Dale's right on this one. The conference isn't (and hasn't
ever been about slavery). Biographies of Civil War folks (from both
sides) have been given in the past, and slavery almost always comes up
in at least one Q&A spot (that is what is being referred to on the
blog, which, by the way, happens to be Steve Wilkins' son Remy's). As
the subject of Revolution is being covered, I assume that Dabney's
biography will primarily deal (after his life) with his views of
secession and what he would consider the constitutional revolution of
the Civil War. But, as we expect close to a thousand attendees, no
doubt someone will ask the slavery question in this Q&A as well.

What, exactly, is the "history" that Robert Louis Dabney is concerned with? Did he write an entire body of work that I'm not aware of on subjects other than the issue of slavery and the Confederacy? His only work that's of the slightest historical interest is _A Defense of Virginia_, unless, of course, you count _The Negro and the Common School_, which I hope to God that you won't be discussing this February.
Also, as for your claim that the conference has never discussed slavery, it's misinformed. One of this year's attendees, who maintains a blog at <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://gloryisabrokenhill.blogspot.com/">http://gloryisabrokenhill.blogspot.com/</a>, writes this about previous conferences: "It seems like there’s always one issue that people just can’t swallow at the C/A HC. It’s usually slavery, but this year it was the Pledge of Allegiance."
Check your sources before posting, please. I'm sure the Daily News checks theirs.

<P>See what I mean? I agree that the play was in bad taste. But it should not have been excluded because some people don't like it. They were not attacking a student. They were expressing their opinion in an artistic way to people that were not forced to listen to their message about public figures that effect their personal lives.</P>
<P>What they are saying is&nbsp; that if a public figure does something good they speak about it all they want, but if they do something bad they should not face attacks. This is controlling free speech. Sure it would be bad to have someone make fun of you. But if your are making decisions that affect the lives of the public and you are being paid by them you should be open to criticisms. They did exactly what the Chinese Government does. Shut&nbsp;down the criticism. </P></DIV>
<P>Like I said before, say all you can now because eventually you will not be allowed to say it. Not even what you are paying the person's salary.</P>

the Editors were interested in correcting every error in the Daily News =

b.. The Daily News decided to run a front-page story based on a =
deliberately inflammatory, misleading, and incorrect anonymous flier.
a.. The headline article on Saturday read: "Sanchez, director of =
diversity and human rights at the UI, decided to research the Christ =
Church-sponsored conference in February that features the authors =
discussing history and slavery."
b.. The History Conference isn't about, nor has it ever been about =

who were mentioned in the article "Slavery Revisited" in the weekend =
edition of the Daily News, will be in attendance at the ninth annual =
History Conference at the University of Idaho in February. The =
conference, sponsored by Credenda/ Agenda, will cover the topics of =
revolution and modernity. Incomplete information appeared in the Daily =
News."
a.. In fact, not only was the information incomplete, the =
information was factually incorrect.=20
b.. The Editors are refusing to retract the deliberately incorrect =
information.=20
c.. Why? Because they will have egg on their faces for creating the =
news as opposed to reporting it?=20
d.. We've seen these tactics from them in the past. See Ralph =
Nielson's letter about "Lynching in Friendship Square". That's news? =
That's not inflammatory?=20
Whether or not any DN reporters are subscribed to this list, I am =
copying the Editor (Alford) and Managing Editor (McClure).=20
Let's just say that I'd love to see how this helps their circulation. =
It's all about the bottom line anyway, isn't it? To hell with "truth" =
and "accuracy".=20
I would hope that Vision2020 would be interested in truth in reporting =
and not just in slander and baiting for revenue's sake.=20
