Visionaries,

If you are alarmed by the prospect of additional budget cuts for public ed,
higher ed and other state-funded programs, please read on. (If not, it's
time to exercise the DELETE option!)

Below is a forwarded message from the nonprofit United Vision for Idaho (my
employer) urging people to call the Governor NOW and ask him to VETO SB1143.
This is the so-called 5-4-3-2-1 plan (1% cuts for public ed, 2% for Health
and Welfare, 3% for higher ed, 4% for Corrections and 5% for everything
else) that passed the Senate on Friday, the House yesterday and is now
headed for the Governor's desk. Over the past several months, the Governor
has consistently said that all the cutting that could prudently be done had
already been done. Now it is time for him to follow through and veto
additional, damaging cuts.

By the way, the Governor made a number of forceful statements post-election
and in his State of the Budget address that he opposed any further cuts for
public ed, higher ed AND health care. Over the past week or two, the health
care pledge appears to have dropped off the radar screen. I'm wondering
what is in store when the Health and Welfare budget comes before JFAC....

Please do take a minute to call the Governor asap,

Judy Brown
