Visionaries,

Two items caught my eye in this morning's Daily News.

The first is a letter by Jeanne Clothiaux dealing with the severe water =
problem we have in Moscow. I hope you are all aware that the council has =
4 options they are looking at and may decide on in their next meeting.=20

I guess I have a problem with a lame duck council making this decision. =
I think we need to wait 2 more weeks. After all we have been waiting for =
a lot of years for something to be enacted that will work and to correct =
the problem. This has been critical for at least 7 months and nothing =
constructive happened. I am afraid we may have a couple council people =
who have been making decisions according to how it will affect their own =
pockets and not in the best interest of the citizens of Moscow. I think =
this is a decision that should be made by the new council people.

The second item is the "strongly worded request or demand" that the city =
or state make some sort of crossing on Pullman road for the students =
living north of the highway. I think the first I heard of this was from =
Linda Pall when she was campaigning for council. I have several thoughts =
on this.

First the students are saying they have to walk an extra mile in some =
cases to cross the street. I haven't got out there in my car to measure =
this but I am sure that maybe 1/4 mile might be closer to the real =
figure. I will probably take my GPS out and measure it later today.

I think that there should be some sort of elevated crosswalk in that =
area to prevent having to make another stop on our way out of town or to =
the businesses out there. This is a state highway and there are enough =
stop lights there now. I suggest thinking about making a special =
assessment district and assess those apartment owners that are affected =
a fee such as $10 per bed per year. I would also agree to maybe the city =
going 1/4 the state 1/2 (its a state highway) and the assessment =
district paying 1/4. There could be a bond floated for the project and =
paid off in a certain number of years.
