All of the examples of changes you give were made via amendments. If you
want to change the Constitution, amend it. Claiming it means whatever you
want it to is how we got where we are today, with a regime in power that has
no regard for the Constitution. Aided and abetted by the previous regime,
GWB et al have done far more damage to this nation than I think I'll see
repaired in my lifetime, or my children will see repaired in theirs.

I'm puzzled, frankly, by the idea that the Constitution could be anything
but a "living document," which I take to be shorthand for "a document which
is understood at different times in different ways."
