I have seen them crossed out many times. Don't know if that's still the practice.

Subject: [WSBARP] re-record to correct deed - cross out old recording number?
I'm re-recording a certified copy of an old deed in order to correct a typo. Should I do anything to the old recording number and REET stamp on it? Cross them out, white them out, leave them alone? I'll attach a recording cover sheet to it.
Sincerely,
Eric
