He will have to sign an affidavit of support and be on the hook for her
until the sponsored immigrant becomes a U.S. citizen, accumulates 40
qualifying quarters of work (usually 10 years), permanently leaves the
U.S., or either the sponsor or the sponsored individual dies.



The idea of protecting your assets from an immigrant wife (unless they are
very, very substantial) is unlikely to be enforced, at least from the
responsibilities related to sponsoring her.

Hello, all! I have a client who is planning to marry a woman who is a
Philippine citizen. They will also reside there. He would like to speak
with an attorney about protecting his assets in the US but doesn't know who
to speak with. I believe it's a combination of attorneys here and there,
but would love a referral/any guidance you all can provide.
