Hey, I have been asked to work with my local Habitat for Humanity ("HFH") office. HFH does its good works building houses, but HFH also owns a second-hand furniture store from donations of furniture, etc. to raise construction funds. They have asked me to canvass other attorneys for HFH across the state to see whether other HFHs put their retail stores in a separate legal entity to protect their assets from the typical slip and fall liability from the retail store. It would be my advice to offload the retail store into a separate LLC/corporation to separate their activities but my local HFH wants to know what other HFHs are doing. Feel free to respond offline to me.
