Samuel: Have had several code enforcement defense cases recently and successfully resolved with the cities of Bellevue, Seattle and Renton. Happy to consult on this one. I am sure they can be reasonable given that the property owner has passed. I have also dealt with this issue in the context of title insurance and the impact on marketability of the property. No idea with KC, but my experience with the city of seattle is that they run the fines to exorbitant levels and then negotiate down substantially. In one example, negotiated down from $190K to $6K.

A PR is administering an estate and one of the properties has a King County Notice of Code Violation and Abatement Order from 2019 recorded against it. The decedent never addressed the violations and apparently fines of $260.00 have been accruing daily for the last ~six years.
Has anyone had any luck getting a county/city/town to abate the fines in this situation? Any other thoughts?
Sam
