I have a client that entered into a contract with a company for home renovation. They sent her an invoice for a required deposit, she emailed them and asked how she could make the payment. She got an response email on their company letterhead with wire instructions. The company had been hacked and they didn't get her money. It appears the company knew they have been hacked and didn't notify anybody. The company received a large sum from their bank or insurance company and wants my client to pay the bill.
Is a company that been hacked responsible when customers weren't notified they have been hacked and who can we sue?
