Listmates:

Process server tried to personally serve a defendant at his home with a
foreclosure action. Defendant refused to answer the door, called the
Sheriff, and operated the chambering mechanism of a shotgun.

I have dealt with this person in the past and he will not open the door for
even the Sheriff. However, this is the first time he resorted to gun play.

I used to ask my server to make five attempts on different days at different
times before seeking an order to serve by publication or mail. In this
instance, do I need to wait any further, or should I ask the Sheriff to
attempt service, with, of course warning, them about this guy's new
attitude.
