Listmates -

I received an email from a good client of mine (on another matter). However, I’m not sure I can help him with this but my curiosity is piqued. Anyone have good results in cases like this? It seems very likely I will have to refer him out for this particular matter.

Client’s home in Seattle has a small driveway. Client can only park in it by having the back half stick into street. This is totally legal and Client has been parking like this for years.

Client received a letter from city that they are revising existing bike lane. The new bike lane will be located next to curb In front of client’s house. Client was informed Client cannot park in client’s driveway due to the revision. Client was informed that driveway does not have a record for a curb cut permit, so its illegal anyways (The driveway has been there for decades, the house was built in early 1900s).

Client has a few back-in-forths with the city, but its going no where. Client feels like the city is taking away his driveway which will hurt property value. Client wants to know if there is a way to receive compensation from the city.

I’d like to know if anyone else has dealt with this issue successfully. If he has a case - I’ll pass him your information!
