[WSBARP] Stimulus for the departed

I had a client who passed away Wednesday night (98 year old/not from Covid -19). His stimulus payment was deposited on Tuesday, so I have advised my client that it does not have to be returned. Would the answer be the same for deaths since the stimulus was authorized by Congress and the President signed the bill, but before the payment was made?

This article claims the money does not need to be paid back, but the source information is not the IRS.

I wonder if the money would still be paid out if the person's 2018 return indicated they died that year.

The state has an unclaimed property registry I believe if you don't have any leads on heirs.
