[WSBARP] Recording Durable Power of Attorney for Financial Decisions

I usually record both the durable general POA and the health care POA. If the original is lost, a certified copy can be obtained from the auditor. Second, there have been times when I was called by a family member (who was the attorney in fact for the principal), telling me that a medical emergency issue had arisen and the POA was needed but the principal did not have it available. I am then able to send a copy from the auditor's website to the AIF or directly to the hospital. While I could also send an unrecorded copy, sometimes health care providers seem to respond better to a recorded copy, though this is random. I hope this helps.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Recording Durable Power of Attorney for Financial Decisions

Hello, Listmates.

Looking for opinions on the option of recording a Durable Power of Attorney with the county auditor. Is it generally necessary, i.e. worth the cost/effort? Does it have to be in the county where executed or can it be where the Principal lives?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Dave Culbertson
