I would support a simple Bill to enable a short form death certificate for
recordation. There would be no opposition. It probably would have unanimous
support of the county recorders, the real property section, the land title
association and the Realtors. The only thing missing is a person in the
Legislature willing to support it.

Subject: [WSBARP] Death Certificates

Hello Listmates,

Frequently, as a consequence of what I do, we are required to record a death
certificate with the County. As I glanced at another one this morning, I
was struck by the amount of personal HEALTH information that is on the death
certificate. I know that in Oregon, for example, you have to request a
"short form death certificate" to record is as it omits the health
information. I was wondering if anyone else thinks that the approach in
Washington is problematic given Federal law and just general ethics, and if
anyone had an idea of what member of our State Government I might raise this
with besides blindly contacting my local representative.

Sincerely,

Richard L. Holland
